Jammu, May 25: Five bogies of two trains including Shalimar Express and Ahmedabad-Jammu express were gutted in a fire at Jammu Tawi railway station on Sunday. General Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel led by SP (Railway) Shiv Kumar Sharma rushed to the spot. Fire tenders also reached soon. As fire brigade officers were trying to douse the flames, fire broke out in another train (Amarnath Express).
There was no loss of life in the fire incident, officials said. Passengers were asked to vacate platform number one of the station as a precautionary measure, police said.
“No one was hurt in the incident,” they said adding that Railway authorities have ordered a probe into the incident.
They said fire broke out in one of the train at 3:30 pm and in the other train at 5 pm.
The fire reduced three bogies of Shalimar express and two bogies of Ahmedabad Jammu Express to ashes.
Deputy Director, Fire Services, Chander Pashan told that the fire broke out under mysterious circumstances and police was investigating the matter.
He said one bogie of Shalimar Express was completely gutted while two were partially damaged.
Two bogies of Ahmedabad-Jammu Express were gutted in the fire.
He said 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot which managed to extinguish the fire in three hours.
Sources said one person has been detained by police for questioning.
