Ahmedabad: Lugging your suitcase up the steep stairs of the Kalupur railway station will not be harrowing from Thursday onwards. Ahmedabad division of the western railway is all set to make the escalator service operational. The escalator is located near the newly-constructed BRTS bus station at the railway station.
During rush hours, tugging a luggage during rush hours is dangerous for women and elderly people, officials said, adding heavy rush is witnessed during the arrival of Gujarat Queen, Jamnagar Intercity, Valsad-Viramgam passenger, Gujarat Express, Lok Shakti , Ashram and Delhi Mail.
“Though the escalator was to be inaugurated on Independence Day, we thought of performing load checks on the machinery of the escalator before throwing it open for the public. An escalator at the airport and railway station caters to two different categories of passengers. Railway passengers carry heavy load. The service would be inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashok Kumar Tiwari on Thursday morning,” says a senior railway official.
