Thiruvarur Jn (TVR): An alert driver of the Thanjavur-Karaikal Passenger service averted a major disaster when he halted the train and removed some iron railings placed on the track by miscreants here on Tuesday. Loco pilot Janakiraman noticed the steel plates on the tracks as the train was nearing Tiruvarur Junction and promptly brought the train to a halt, got down, and removed them. He immediately informed the authorities in Tiruvarur and Rail Traffic Control in Tiruchi.
Government Railway Police at Tiruvarur went to the spot and cleared the remaining iron railings. On Wednesday, Superintendent of Police, Railways, Tiruchi, Anne Vijaya, inspected the section near Tiruvarur Junction and told reporters that special teams were formed to nab the culprits. She said that patrolling along the tracks would be intensified to prevent such incidents.
