Allahabad Jn (ALD): The infrastructure of the Allahabad railway junction would undergo a major transformation with the construction of more platforms and a skywalk, said North Central Railway General Manager Pradeep Kumar while talking to the media on Wednesday.
The construction of platform number 11 is currently in progress and work on platforms 12 and 13 is proposed. The expansion is being done in view of the huge passenger turnout on occasions of mega religious events like the Kumbh. The skywalk will connect foot-over-bridges with platforms on the Civil Lines side.
The passenger enclosures constructed for Mahakumbh last year will now be segregated on the basis of arriving and departing passengers. The objective is to control the rush of passengers and ensure smooth movement of outgoing and incoming, the GM added.
North Central Railway is also planning to strengthen infrastructure and passenger amenities at Subedarganj and Cheoki railway stations. At Chheoki, a passenger shade would be built and construction of a station building is also proposed.
At Subedarganj station, construction of a foot-over-bridge is underway. Further, the height of two platforms will also be increased.
The GM also said the construction of the Eastern Freight Corridor would ease traffic on the New Delhi-Mughalsarai route as freight trains would be shifted to the corridor and the would be cleared for passenger, mail and express trains.
