The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has said that full-speed trials from Peenya to Srirampura station (on Reach-3) will be conducted from June 10 and the same will subsequently be extended to Sampige Road station by July 8.
“Even if this is complete, the oscillation trials are a must and for that we need the clearances under the schedule of dimensions,” a source said.
The second tunnel-boring machine (TBM) – Kaveri – in the North-South underground corridor achieved a breakthrough at 9.35 am on Saturday at the south-end of the City Market underground station.
“The tunneling work had started from the South Ramp near KIMS Hospital and the 393-metre length of the tunnel has been completed in about six months,” the BMRCL said in a press release.
Noting that the breakthrough was accurate, an official said the TBM was an earth pressure balance (EPB) machine with a ‘mixed shield’, tailor-made in Germany. “It was assembled in and imported from China,” the release said.
In a separate press release, BMRCL said that the speed of Indian Railways trains between the Bangalore City railway station and Malleswaram station has been restored from 20 kmph to 45 kmph in the first stage, in view of the substantial completion of construction of the 66-metre railway span Metro structure at Malleswaram. The speed had been reduced to 20 kmph due to Metro work.
