Berhampur GRP foils dacoity bid in Konark Express

BERHAMPUR: The Brahmapur Government Railway Police (GRP) on Sunday night busted a dacoit gang and arrested six members, including its kingpin.

Among the accused five are natives of Bihar and one belongs to Khordha. The arrestees were identified as Rahula Mandal (44),  Chintu Kumar Chatu Sa (27), Mukesh Saha ( 44) , Raban Kumar (20) of Munger in Bihar and  Ananta Behera (31) of Khurdha.

Police have seized three knives, Rs.30,000 cash, and train tickets from Brahmapur to Bhubaneswar and chili powder from their possession.

The GRP got information that some youths were loitering suspiciously at late night in the platform of Brahmapur Railway Station. Immediately, a police team conducteda raid and nabbed the accused, said GRP IIC Sukanta Bhoi.

During interrogation the arrestees confessed that they were planning to commit dacoity in the Mumbai- Bhubaneswar Konark Express. On Monday they were forwarded to court. Police are investigating whether the gang is involved in similar crimes in the past.
