ब्रह्मपुर Brahmapur (BAM): Renovation and repair work of platform-4 in Berhampur railway station has reached final stage, said Chief Engineer of East Coast Railway Siba Prasad Samantaray during his recent visit to the city.
Samantaray said the damages caused by cyclone Phailin were repaired and a 21-day sanitation drive was launched to promote public awareness about cleanliness in the railway station.
Samantaray held a discussion with Railway officials on the construction of special entry and exit gates to the station and proposed to shift the existing cycle stand to adjacent railway land.
Samantaray asked the GRP and RPF not to allow parking at the entry points of the station. The ramp over bridge for physically disabled persons has been opened for use. After completion of the construction of platform-4, the ramp would be connected. He said steps to evict the encroached railway land has also begun.
Under the sanitation drive, samples of water were collected from the water taps inside the railway station and sent to departmental laboratory at Khurdha for testing, said Samantaray.
Meanwhile, fines were collected form seven persons for spitting inside the platforms, said Station Manager S Bramha.
