BHILAI: Rising to the occasion once again to fulfill a pressing need to install an alternative stamping machine in Universal Rail Mill (URM), members of the Bhilai Collective from the Plant’s Rail & Structural Mill (RSM), Engineering, Design & Drawing Dept. (EDD) and URM have modified, re-assembled and installed an alternative stamping machine for Universal Rail Mill, a BSP press release informed .
Members of the entire team that was entrusted to carry out this crucial assignment were felicitated by M Ravi, BSP CEO and members of the top management of the Plant at a function in CEO Conference Hall, ISPAT Bhavan on Thursday.
Given the importance of ensuring smooth operations of Universal Rail Mill so as to fulfill the Indian Railway’s requirement of long rails, it was felt necessary that an alternative stamping machine be readied as a standby arrangement to the existing stamping machine at URM. An old Russian make stamping machine lying unused in Rail & Structural Mill was identified for the purpose.
The Russian stamping machine was examined by the Plant’s Engineering, Design & Drawing Department.
The feasibility of installation of this machine at URM site was studied and suitable location near the existing stamping machine at URM was selected to install the alternative machine.
The alternative machine was further modified and re-designed to withstand the heavy external forces and made it suitable and adaptable to the new site at URM and also to the changed orientation of rails. For this purpose, the Russian Machine was first truncated 50% from the original.
