Bhubaneswar Police take ARSS Chief in custody to identify henchmen

Bhubaneswar (BBS): A trial court here on Tuesday granted permission to police to take ARSS chief Subash Agarwal on two-day remand for questioning in connection with Saturday’s firing on a senior railway employee.

On Sunday, police arrested Agarwal for allegedly masterminding the attack on Ajay Kumar, joint general manager of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), a subsidiary of Indian Railway.

“We will try to elicit information from Agarwal about three goons, whom he hired to attack Kumar. We strongly suspect Agarwal paid hefty money to the anti-socials to attack the railway officer,” DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

Kumar had a close shave after the bike-borne outlaws opened fire on his vehicle near Shree Vihar. Police said Agarwal targetted Kumar as the latter penalized ARSS several times for poor execution of a railway project. ARSS had bagged the project, involving construction of broad gauge lines between Angul and Sukinda. Kumar, who looks after quality aspect of the railway projects, slapped around Rs 21 lakh fine on ARSS in the past on year. In February, Agarwal visited Kumar at his office and allegedly threatened him of dire consequences.

Agarwal, who runs the Rs 1000 crore turnover ARSS, denied his involvement in the attack. “The charges against me are baseless. Police falsely implicated me in the case,” Agarwal had told media persons on Sunday.
