Udaipur City (UDZ): Determined to pressurize the railway board and the Union government to sanction the requisite budget for their longstanding demand of broad gauge conversion, hundreds of BJP Yuva Morcha workers will plan a six-day march of 177 kilometre from Udaipur to Himmatnagar starting on Republic Day.
With the ‘Chalega Yuva-Layega Broad Gauge’ slogan, youth leaders of the party are planning the event to make it a mass movement.
Jinendra Shastri, district president of the BJP Yuva Morcha said the event has been scheduled for January 26 from the city railway station. “The gauge conversion issue is not to be taken as a publicity stunt for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. We had held post card abhiyaan, rail roko andolan and many other demonstrations since the last several years over the issue. As the authorities are not releasing budget for the project on a priority basis, work for the conversion is going at a snail’s pace and will delay the ambitious it further by 5 years if the common people do not resort to such a protest,” said Shastri, who is also one of the member of the railways advisory committee.
“We have been assured participation and support by hotel and guide associations, academic institutes, trade unions and even various business houses and associations. The march will start from the city railway station on Republic Day and we hope to cover a distance of 25 to 30 kilometre on a daily basis,” he said, adding, “An ambulance with basic life-saving equipment and a team of doctors will accompany the walkers,” he added.
The party expects to reach Himmatnagar on the 6th day. During their journey, the participants will spread awareness about their movement to get more support from the common public. A dress code with banners and slogans has been planned for the participants. To avoid any casualties, women and children would not be allowed to join the complete route, leaders of the party added.
