Kochi: After the piling work of the first Metro Rail station of Kochi Metro begins this week, the Kochi Corporation has lashed out against the Kerala Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) authorities for failing to carry out the preparatory works in the area, including deepening of the culvert along the Perandoor canal.
Mayor Tony Chammany said he would be taking this issue with the Metro agencies in the coming days.
According to K V Manoj, Kaloor councillor, the DMRC had begun piling works for the Kochi Metro project along the stretch despite demands by the residents associations and political parties to deepen the culvert first and then go ahead with the piling works.
Speaking on this, Metro officials said it is the responsibility of the Corporation to carry out the culvert work.
Meanwhile, the CPM Ernakulam area committee is planning to take out a protest at Panambilly Nagar on October 10 demanding the widening of the South RoB, as part of the preparatory works for the Kochi Metro Rail.
Corporation Town Planning Committee chairman K J Sohan said the Metro agencies have not taken the Kochi Corporation into confidence for any of the civil works.
“Even as the Kochi Metro authorities are embarking on several preparatory works on the city, we have not been informed prior to the beginning of the work, the most recent being the piling work at MG Road.
However, Metro officials said they have not been approached directly by the Kochi Corporation officials regarding these issues.
