Blast at Railway Line construction site in Manipur

Guwahati (GWH):  A powerful bomb hurled by the militants exploded at the construction site of a railway line at Nungba area in interior Manipur’s Tamenglong district Thursday.

No casualty was reported in the powerful explosion which took place adjacent to E-block labour camp at tunnel no. 8 at Kambiron, about 12 km from Nungba police station of Tamenglong district, around 4 pm.

As reported by the manager of the Coastal Project Limited B Nagaraju to the Nungba police, the explosion has damaged two vehicles of the company parked nearby the explosion.

This is the third time in the last few months which the railway construction site was targeted by militants by exploding bombs.

At least seven workers the Coastal Projects Limited were injured, two of them seriously, in one of the explosions that took place at the same site on October 7 last year.

Earlier, on September 29 of the same year, a country-made bomb was exploded at the same site, leaving at least four workers injured. Coastal Project Limited is engaged in construction of tunnels as part of the railway project and it is currently engaged in construction of tunnel no. 4 near Kambiron. There have been instances where hill based UG groups demanded money from companies engaged in the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway project besides taking labourers hostage for ransom.
