MUMBAI: The Bombay HC on Monday asked the CBI to get back to it in two weeks on whether it had verified the consignment of over four lakh bail bonds. The bonds were supplied by Central Railway’s printing press to the Railway Protection Force in Mumbai.
The HC bench of Justices PV Hardas and PN Deshmukh asked the CBI if it had complied with its earlier directive and verified the bail bond inventory.
Before the court was a PIL filed by activist Sameer Zaveri highlighting an alleged fake railway court scam at Kurla suburban station.
The CBI now has to verify all the RPF posts where bail bonds were supplied and also how many bail bonds were issued to begin with and what was the total amount collected.
The PIL had alleged that RPF staff at the Kurla station portrayed themselves as staff of a “railway magistrate court” and asked trespassers on railway tracks and land to pay up money for cash bonds for their release, after their arrest.
