Calcutta Tramway Co., introduces trams to commemorate Swami Vivekananda

KOLKATA, The Calcutta Tramways Company (CTC) today introduced two trams ~ Vivek Tirtha and Paribrajok ~ to create awareness about Swami Vivekananda’s life and works.

Swami Vivekananda’s letters, pictures and biography are being displayed inside the trams, in addition to his speeches. of Swami Vivekananda are also being displayed inside the trams. The trams will be stationed at the Esplanade tram depot for five days beginning today. Thereafter, Vivek Tirtho will travel to various CTC depots, including Graiahat, Belgachia, Bidhannagor, Park Circus, BBD Bag, Khidderpore and Shyambazar. Paribrajok will ply along different routes to lure passengers and generate revenue, said the state transport minister, Mr Madan Mitra. Pictures of great scientists, freedom fighters and writers, including Jagadish Chandra Bose, Meghnad Saha, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Surjya Sen, Chittaranjan Das, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and Jibanananda Das, will also be displayed inside the trams, Mr Mitra said.

‘Don’t bring politics to work’

Sending a stern warning to employees of CTC and other state-run transport corporations, the state transport minister, Mr Madan Mitra, today said that all party flags from transport corporation depots must be removed. “When party flags are seen at depots, it leaves a bad impression,” said Mr Mitra. He asked CTC employees to do their job sincerely, honestly and carefully in order to revive the ailing corporation.

The CTC has been incurring huge loss every month due to poor work culture among the employees, Mr Mitra said, adding that a section of its employees has tarnished the image of the transport corporation by participating in political rallies during office hours.
