Chairman, Railway Board Ashwani Lohani inspects Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station

MUMBAI: Chairman, Railway Board (CRB) Ex-Officio Principal Secretary, Govt of India, Shri Ashwani Lohani, visited Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai today 12.01.2018. During his visit he paid homage to Martyr’s of 26/11 Memorial (Smarak) at CSMT Premises and inspected various departments and general railway working accompanied by Shri M. K. Gupta, Member Engineering, Railway Board, Shri D.K. Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway, Shri S. K. Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Central Railway and other senior officials.

CRB, during his inspections met AC coach attendants of premium trains while inspecting the new uniform of Travelling Ticket Examiner, had met and interacted with the Engineering Trackmen and inspected their Tool Kits, Inspected CSMT Suburban Concourse, inspected Motormen and Suburban Guard’s Lobby and inaugurated CMS (Crew Management System) kiosks, later inspected  Star Chamber, Chief PRO’s office, CSMT Heritage Building including Dharohar Dirgha (Heritage Museum) and met representatives from recognized unions and associations.

CRB also took review meeting with Shri D. K. Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway, Shri A. K. Gupta, General Manager, Western Railway and Shri R. S. Khurana, CMD (LA), MRVC, Principal Head of the Departments of Central Railway ,Western Railway and officials of the Mumbai Division, where he was shown presentation by Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation about Projects in Mumbai Division including  Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus – Panvel elevated corridor project.

Shri Lohani during his inspection at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus appreciated Mumbai Division, Central Railway’s innovation on ‘RAIL FRACTURE REPAIR’. The details of this innovative tool are:

Central Railway has developed a special clamp to pass the trains on fractured track quickly to reduce the restoration time thereby reducing inconvenience to the passengers.

Whenever fractures take place, the fish plate of the fractured rail is removed; the fractured location is covered with special clamp. The fish plates are against secured position with the clamp along with the fractured rail piece. Traffic can be immediately passed with restrictive speed untill preparations are made for rail replacement, thereby reducing the overall time of shutdown.
