Chakradharpur Division looses Freight Revenue due to decline in mining activities in Sundargarh & Keonjhar

Rourkela (ROU): On the occasion of the inaugurating the second entry gate and booking counter of the Rourkela railway station on Saturday, South Eastern Railway (SER) General Manager Radhe Shyam interacting with reporters said the SER revenue from passengers fare has gone up to Rs.1,576 crore, which is a 14-per cent escalation. But the revenue from goods freight has plunged to Rs.8,576 crore, a fall of Rs.539 crore in comparison to the last year’s figure. It is due to the decline in mining activities in Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts under the SER Chakradharpur Division, said Radheshyam. He said a plan has been made for escalator facilities with infrastructural development including installation of CC cameras at the Rourkela railway station. Approval for two over-bridges at STI and ITI level crossings has been made and the tender would be floated on April 20 and construction work would begin in May or June.

Besides, for a flyover at the Bondamunda Kukuda Gate and Kalunga IDC the required drawing and other works are completed and approval is awaited. In reply to a question about nameplates in Odia, he assured steps for the purpose soon.
