Mumbai: CIDCO, Central Railway (CR) will jointly table a presentation before the commissioner of railway safety (CRS) on May 12 to obtain the nod for trial run on the new rail corridor connecting Nerul to Belapur via the new Seawoods station. The new station is left to the existing station that will be dismantled to convert it to a junction for running trains to Uran at a later date.
With major works completed on the new corridor, the safety run approved by the CRS would ensure the new station gets functional for both harbour and trans harbour tracks as Thane-Panvel bound trains would also make use of the new corridor. But, with rains scheduled next month, stakeholders were trying to hurry up operations.
GM, CR held a coordination meeting Tuesday in which CIDCO participated and discussed the issue of throwing open the station to the people. The station made by infra giant, L & T is ready and some track connectivity work is yet to get completed. CIDCO said that the new tracks from Nerul to Seawoods and Belapur too have been laid but the CRS had to give the nod. A team of CRS and CR will be shortly visiting the site to check the physical aspects of track laid, signaling system, said CR CPRO, Narendra Patil.
