Vashi वशी (VSH):City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) authorities were left red-faced after the failure of its marathon anti-encroachment drive on Thursday against leaseholders, who have kiosks selling food on the ground floor of the Vashi railway station.
The kiosks, which had their furniture seized during the drive, had lined up more chairs and tables to host customers on Friday.
Asked how some of the eateries could have procured more furniture, a CIDCO official said, “We had seized the items which were on the premises outside the kiosks. They may have taken these out from inside their shops.”
The five-and-a-half hour drive had little impact on the leaseholders and has embarrassed CIDCO.
Initially surprised over the prompt return of the illegal encroachments within the station premises, CIDCO officials were in a combative mood and said, “We will carry out another drive. How long will they defy the stipulated norms?”
The security staff posted on the premises also expressed surprise and said that they had no way to know if the kiosk owners had obtained the necessary permission for setting shop again.
