Kochi: Representatives of St. Albert’s College met Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Principal Advisor E.Sreedharan and Union minister Prof. K.V Thomas here on Friday to resolve the dispute regarding the acquisition of the college ground to construct the Operation Control Centre (OCC) of the Kochi Metro.
The minister and E Sreedharan held discussions with college authorities to resolve the crisis over taking over of a portion of the college ground near Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Though they did not announce a final decision on the controversy, the minister said that he had “conveyed the concerns of the college management to Sreedharan”. The minister also held separate talks with representatives of the college management.
The decision to take over 90 cents of the college ground for metro works triggered a controversy and various civic agencies including the Greater Cochin Development Authority intervened to resolve it. It was in 1983 that the state government had leased out 4.65 acres of land to the college. The lease agreement was renewed in 199M’S 5 with a validity of 50 years.
