Commodity wise Cargo Revenue by Railways goes up by 10.37%

New Delhi: The railways have generated INR 765.01 billion of revenue earnings from commodity-wise cargo volume during April 2013 to January 2014 as compared to INR 693.13 billion during the corresponding period of previous year, registering a boost of 10.37%.

Railways carried 866.14 million tonnes (mt) of commodity-wise cargo volume during April 2013- January 2014 as compared to 827.82 mt carried during the corresponding period of previous year, registering an boost of 4.63%.

Out of the total earnings of INR 87.95 billion from commodity-wise freight volume during the month of January 2014, INR 37.73 billion came from transportation of 46.55 mt of coal, followed by INR 8.66 billion from 11.39 mt of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic user, INR 8.65 billion from 10.65 mt of cement, INR 7.79 billion from 5.03 mt of foodgrains, INR 4.71 billion from 3.56 million tons of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), INR 5.25 billion from 3.49 mt of Pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points, INR 3.78 billion from 3.61 mt of fertilizers, INR 1.44 billion from 1.38 mt of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, INR 3.80 billion from 3.91 mt by container service and INR 6.09 billion from 6.83 mt of other goods.
