CONCOR connects Export Containers en masse by Rail to Chennai Port

Chennai: During the recent rains, the movement of ex-im containers IN and OUT of Chennai Port was badly disrupted due to the heavy congestion on the roads.

During this period, the Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) connected 240 Twenty foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) of export containers of Sun Global Logistics Private Limited (exporter Hyundai Motors India Limited) from ICD-TNPM to Chennai Port through its shuttle rail services in a span of 2 days (i.e. December 13 and 14, 2015) apart from handling regular rail services between the HOM-WFD sector.

The movement of these containers, carried out in 3 rakes (240 TEU), enabled connecting the boxes safely to the planned vessel without any shut-out, at a much reduced transit time.

CONCOR is very keen to continue rail services for the benefit of the trade as it will reduce the transit time and transaction cost to the end user.
