CONCOR’s Multi-modal Logistic Park at Vizag to be ready for operation by April

Visakhapatnam (VSKP):  Multi-modal logistic park being developed near Visakhapatnam International Airport by Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) with an investment of Rs.370 crore will be ready for commercial operations in two years.

CONCOR Group General Manager R.Dhananjayulu told that they were funding the project through internal accruals. The first phase of the project developed in an area of 10 acres out of 98 acres acquired from Visakhapatnam Port Trust is ready for operation by April.  Warehousing facility with 50,000-square feet of bonded area is getting ready. VPT has allotted 98-acre on a 30-year lease extendable with mutual consent. As it is a marshy area, lot of filling is required. The first phase is being completed at a cost of Rs.16 crore (excluding land cost).

It will be a customs notified area. It is well-connected by road. Rail siding work will be taken up shortly for which in-principle nod is obtained from the Ministry of Railways.  East Coast Railway has been asked to prepare the detailed project report.  Mr. Dhananjayulu said two bridges and four railway lanes would come up as part of the project.  At present, CONCOR is handling 2,000 containers for export and import and 1,000 domestic containers a month.  Once the multi-modal logistic park is completed, it will handle 10,000 containers with facility to scale up to 20,000 containers.

He said the Container Freight Station at Guntur was revived last year. It will be upgraded with an investment of Rs.16 crore to handle cotton seeds, granite, pulses, marble, white cement and China clay.

Mr.Dhananjayulu said CONCOR was contemplating setting up a logistics park similar to the Visakhapatnam at Krishnapatnam port.  “It is at nascent stage. We have already made a proposal to the State Government. Of 130 acres identified for the project, 80 acres belong to the government,” he said.  He said container freight station being operated at Patancheru near Hyderabad for past two years was good business.
