MoSR falsely implicated by Bengal Police at the behest of Trinamul; Congress asserts

Behrampore:  The state Congress leadership organised a protest rally here today to throw weight behind its MP, Adhir Chowdhury, also the Minister of State for Railways, who has been accused of killing a Trinamul Congress leader, Kamal Sheikh hailing from Behrampore area in Murshidabad district. The party also made an appeal to the Congressmen to court arrest during the Jail Bharo movement to be launched shortly in protest against the MP’s incrimination which, Congress leaders here alleged, was politically motivated.

An arrest warrant issued recently in connection with the murder has been pending against Mr Chowdhury, the Congress MP from Behrampore and Murshidabad District Congress President. Demonstrating full support for the murder accused, the Congress leadership today asserted that Mr Chowdhury has been falsely implicated by police at the behest of the ruling Trinamul Congress government.

Congress MP and the Union minister of state for urban development, Mrs Deepa Das Munsi enthralled a strong crowd of Congress workers and supporters by singing on stage to express her solidarity with Mr Chowdhury. Rape cases are on rise and TMC-sponsored terror has spread its tentacles in the state, said Mrs Das Munsi. If Adhir Chowdhury is arrested, Congressmen in all district would welcome arrest, she declared. She also appreciated the stand taken by the Imams who declined to take pension offered by the state government.

Malda MP, Mr Abu Hashem Khan Chowdhury used the occasion to call Trinamul Congress a party of idiots. Trinamul is a party of the idiot (Trinamul ekta bekuber dal), so its government filed a false case against Mr. Chowdhury, remarked Mr Khan Chowdhury.

“Adhir Chowdhury is a star of the stars. If he is arrested, Congress will jump into action to end the Trinamul misrule. Earlier during the Lok Sabha polls, Mamata (TMC chief) called on me and asked for help. So we helped but now her only target is to finish off Congress,” the Malda MP said with a pledge that Congress would thwart any move to let down Mr Adhir Chowdhury.

The state Congress chief, Mr Pradip Bhattacharya declared the dates of Jail Bharo from 18 Nov to 30 Nov when Congressmen will stage state-wide protests. Congress won’t forgive this government if Adhir is arrested, said Mr. Bhattacharya. If the Supreme Court orders CBI inquiry into the Saradha scam, a number of ministers of the Trinamul government should be ready to go into jail, he warned.

Apparently upbeat with support of his party colleagues backed by thousands of party workers at FUC ground at Behrampore, Mr Adhir Chowdhury said: “You  (Trinamul backed by police) like to threaten us. But we don’t care. I shall smash your heads if you try to terrorize my party supporters and activists.”

He further alleged: “The SP, Murshidabad acting under the instruction of Miss Mamata Banerjee has made plans to capture Behrampore municipality by putting me behind bars and by unleashing terror against the Congress party. But things are not so easy. We did not allow CPIM to create terror here. Similarly, the Trinamul and police won’t be allowed any space for terror.” Mr.Chowdhury also threatened to gherao either Writers’ or the Nabanna in protest against the state government’s failure to ensure food security to poor people in the wake of the enactment of the Central act on food security.

All Congress-ruled states like Assam, Rajasthan etc have implemented projects on food security for the poor but West Bengal has been an exception because it is run by a non-Congress government.
Congress MP, Mr Mannan Hossain of Murshidabad constituency and Jangipur MP, Mr.Abjijit Mukherjee, son of the President, Mr Pranab Mukherjee and AICC observer, Mr Shakil Ahmed, Mrs Shova Ohja, President of All India Women’s Congress and Congress MLAs from different constituencies of Murshidabad district also attended the programme.  Trinamul all India general secretary, Mr Mukul Roy, however, said Congress has reduced to nearly nothing after the Panchayat and municipal elections.
