Ballia: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today held the Congress responsible for the backwardness in the expansion of railways in the country.
“Railways, undoubtedly, happen to be the moving image of the Central Government. Congress ruled the country for maximum period but they did not take any appropriate steps to make the required thrust and investment for railways,” he said while laying the foundation of Ballia-Chapra double track here.
He said the Narendra Modi government has given special thrust for railways with proposed investment of Rs 8.5 lakh crore and the government has started to arrange the required funds.
“Indian railways are going close to the people and the government is now concentrating on smooth running of trains,” he said while alleging that Congress was responsible for the delay in the trains and they did not work for the modernisation of railways.
The Railway Minister said UP has got the major thrust in doubling of the tracks by 454 per cent while,123 railway over-bridges are under construction.
“Acche din of the Modi government is now in discussion in the social sites too and in the Facebook, people have accepted that Railway’s have improved in last one year,” he claimed.
Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said the UPA government had spent Rs 1000 crore each year during their 10 year rule, but the NDA government had already sanctioned Rs 4200 crore this year.
He announced that the speed of the railway development will increase and in the next budget for two projects, Bhatni-Auhiriyar doubling and Indira-Dohrigaht meter guage would be converted to broad guage.
