CPI demands execution of Gauge Conversion work

Thiruvarur Jn (TVR):  The police arrested over 1400 cadre of Communist Party of India (CPI), including 227 women, when they staged a rail blockade protest at Tiruvarur, Koradacherry and Needamangalam demanding immediate execution of gauge conversion work between Tiruvarur and Pattukottai via Tiruthuraipoondi Tiruthuraipoondi to Agasthiyampalli via Vedaranyam . They sought permanent solution to traffic congestion at level crossings at at Needamangalam. They demanded Tiruvarur to be developed into a model railway station . At Needamangalam, the cadres led by R. Mutharasan, state Assistant Secretary of CPI stopped the Ernakulam-Karaikal express. At Koradachery, and the protest was led by V. Selvaraj, former chairman of Tiruvarur district panchayat council.
