CR envisage to build Skywalk between Parel and Dadar stations

Dadar दादर (DR): The Central Railway (CR) is to build a skywalk in order to curb the extensive trespassing that takes place between Dadar and Parel.

CR General Manager Sunil Kumar Sood said, “We were discussing amongst ourselves about connecting points between Kurla and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus when someone said that we need one between Dadar and Parel as well due to tresspassing.”

“I have seen myself that people walk on the tracks as if it’s a road. This is a very serious issue and a skywalk here would really help,” he added.

Many commuters who travel by fast trains alight at Dadar and walk until Parel and then to Western Railway’s Lower Parel station via the railway tracks between Dadar and Parel.

When asked as to why the CR couldn’t stop fast trains at Parel as a platform on the fast line already exists, Mr Sood said, “During peak hour we have an interval of three minutes between two trains, if we stop at Parel this interval will run into three minutes and 40 seconds, thereby affecting the punctuality of the train.”

Regarding the skywalk, Mr Sood said that it is still in the planning stages and will hopefully get the required nod.

A CR official said on condition of anonymity, “There are a lot of colleges and shops along the length of the proposed skywalk. So we are planning to have parts of it on the road itself and a part of it elevated so that there can be optimum use of the skywalk for us by commercially utilising it and not allowing it to lie vacant and unused like most skywalks.”
