मेंढीपतार Mendipathar: A team of officials from the North Eastern Frontier Railways headed by the Kolkata-based Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) conducted the statutory inspection of the Dudhnoi-Mendipathar railway line.
“The safety inspection went well. There were no glitches as far as I know and it was successful,” North Garo Hills district Deputy Commissioner W Khyllep told PTI.
The team was greeted by hundreds of Garo tribals who had gathered in the premises to welcome the train that chugged into the station.
The inspection team headed by the commissioner would submit the inspection report to the railways authorities for final approval after which the line will become functional. The Dudhnoi (Assam)-Mendipathar line was integrated with the national railway grid in February earlier this year.
Approved way back in 1992-93, the 19.47 km railway line connects Dudhnoi in the Goalpara district of Assam and Mendhipathar in the state’s North Garo Hills district.
According to the deputy commissioner, people in North Garo Hills have welcomed the railways and are upbeat of the achievement of the North Eastern Frontier Railways.
“There will be a lot of benefits to the people here after the railway station is open for public. First there will be a passenger train that will connect with Guwahati and the rest of the country. Then the goods trains are also in the offing,” Khyllep said.
