Pune: Members of the Deccan Gymkhana Parisar Samiti have urged chief minister Devendra Fadnavis to share details of the metro project submitted to him by the state-appointed committee led by Girish Bapat before taking a final call.
The citizens’ group has written to Fadnavis saying that “In the interests of transparency, we request you to share all proposals submitted to the committee with the public through the government website”.
The committee, which was formed to study alternative alignment for metro corridor-II between Vanaz and Ramwadi, recently submitted its report to the CM. In March, Fadnavis had said the state will immediately start work on corridor-I, which would connect Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate. The work on the second corridor is expected to start once the CM approves the committee report.
In its letter, the citizens’ group has stated, “We understand that the committee has submitted its report to you and that various proposals were submitted to the committee. As per reports there was no consensus view. We request you to not rush through with any decision and to take a studied view taking into account the opinions of all stakeholders, town planners and traffic and transportation experts from Pune.”
According to the citizens’ group, over the past two years, there has been an outcry against the DMRC’s metro proposal for the second corridor, which passes through over-populated areas of Deccan Gymkhana and Karve Road. The floor space index (FSI) notification in the metro-influence zone will lead to more congestion, they added.
