Delay in announcement of SECoR Zone may cost Andhra youth dearly

Their job prospects will be marred if a new RRB is not set up

विजयवाडा Vijayawada (BZA): The undue delay in the announcement of the new railway zone for Andhra Pradesh is not only leading to avoidable speculation on location of the headquarters but also marring the job prospects of unemployed youth from the State!

There are 21 Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) in the country, one for each railway zone and two each in West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar which are responsible for recruitment for Group C posts.

Of the four railway divisions in Andhra Pradesh, Waltair (Visakhapatnam) is under the Bhubaneswar headquartered East Coast Railway (ECoR) and other three divisions Guntur, Vijayawada and Guntakal are under the Telangana headquartered South Central Railway (SCR).

Following harassment of Telugu candidates in Odisha and prolonged agitation the recruitment of candidates for Waltair Division was entrusted to RRB Secunderabad in 1994.

The recruitment for Guntur, Vijayawada and Guntakal Divisions is also done through RRB, Secunderabad, which is now in Telangana State.

“The passions whipped up by politicians in the two States following bifurcation is likely to result in the youth from AP getting a raw deal in Telangana. Similar to the situation faced by candidates from Visakhapatnam who were ill-treated in Odisha when they appeared for the RRB examination,” fears president of East Coast Railway Shramik Union Chalasani Gandhi.

Group-D selections are made once in two years and Group-C selections are done as and when the vacancies arise.

There is a likelihood of large number of vacancies being announced in the next two years and unless a new RRB is established immediately, youth from AP are likely to be the losers.

Mr. Gandhi, who is also the assistant general secretary of the All India Railwaymen’s Federation, said the union has already submitted a memorandum to the Ministry of Railways at New Delhi seeking establishment of an RRB and one Railway Recruitment Cell in AP on par with other States.
