DEHRADUN: A major tragedy was averted, when a goods train ran without an engine for around eight kms in Uttarakahnd’s Khatima area on Wednesday.
Eight bogies of a freight train let loose at Tanakpur, when stones were being loaded on the train.
The goods train had a free run for eight kilometres and killed few goats coming on its way.
The bogies also dragged a tractor working on railway tracks, leading to damage in many parts of the tracks.
Railways has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
