Dhanbad: Preparations are on in full swing at Railway Stadium in Dhanbad for the Ranji Trophy match between Jharkhand and Punjab from December 30 to January 2.
Dhanbad Cricket Association general secretary S.A. Rahman on Wednesday said that BCCI’s East Zone Ground and Pitch Committee representative Ashish Bhowmick was expected to visit the district on October 19.
Bhowmick along with his team will inspect the infrastructure at the stadium.
The association and East Central Railway (ECR), which is the custodian of the stadium, are, therefore, leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the BCCI team is impressed with the facilities.
Sports officer of ECR’s Dhanbad division Dayanand said that the boundary wall of the stadium, which had developed some cracks, is being repaired. “Work will be completed within a month,” he added.
The pitch is being re-laid and the outfield spruced up to give it a much more greener look, Dayanand said.
A media gallery, having a seating capacity of 40 persons, has already been set up at cost of Rs 20 lakh, in accordance with BCCI norms. “The space can be used for installation of cameras and other necessary equipment for live telecast of matches,” Dayanand said.
Regarding the installation of floodlights, the sports officer said that a tender has been floated. “Three high-mast lights will be installed at a cost of around 40 lakh, while one has already been set up last year,” Dayanand said. He, however, added that floodlights would come up after the Jharkhand-Punjab match.
“In any case, we do not need floodlights for holding a Ranji match. So it’s irrelevant in context of the pitch committee’s inspection,” Dayanand added.
