Chandigarh: From August 5, Tricity residents will be able to visit Goa directly from Chandigarh, as Northern Railways has extended Nizamuddin-Madgaon express train to Chandigarh. The extension of the train was announced in the current railway budget.
The special Madgaon-Chandigarh-Madgaon express train (number: 12449-12450) will run twice a week on Saturday and Monday – from the city and take over 35 hours to reach Madgaon. The train will reach the city railway station on Wednesday and Thursday.
“The extended train will depart from Chandigarh railway station at 1:30am twice a week and take over 35 hours to reach Madgaon. And the train will reach here at late night. The extension will facilitate public as the train will also touch crucial stations like Ambala, Panipat, Nizamuddin, New Delhi, Kota, Vadodara, Wasai Ratnagiri, among others,”said Gulshan Kumar, Sr.DCM/Ambala Railway Division. The development has come as a huge relief for the residents, as there was no direct train to the famous tourist hub of the country.
