DRM Office/Salem provides Counters to issue Rail ID for Disabled

Salem (SA): For the convenience of differently-abled passengers, Salem Divisional Office of Southern Railway has designated special centres which will issue them Railway identity (ID) cards. The arrangements for receiving applications have been made at Erode, Karur, Tiruppur, Coimbatore and Udhagamandalam railway stations from 10am and 1pm on every Tuesday and Thursday.

Indian Railway introduced the system of issuing of Railway ID for differently-abled people which will enable them to book their tickets online through e-ticketing, as well as across the counter. While other stations, Chennai, Tiruchchirappalli, Madurai, Salem, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram, gives disabled people the option to send the necessary documents through post.

“These locations will be operational from Friday (May 1) and continue to do so for a period of two months only. After that, applications need to be sent to Salem divisional offices,” said G V Venkatesan, public relations officer of Salem Railway division. He added that on completion of verification, the cards can be collected from the place of submission, in person or through an authorized representative on Tuesdays and Thursdays. “If the applicant submits his mobile phone number along with his application, he or she will be intimated by an SMS to collect the card. Otherwise, they may collect the card after three weeks,” he said.
