Tiruchirappalli (TPJ): A.K.Aggarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, urged the authorities to deck up and maintain Thanjavur Railway Station.
Besides, he received petitions from rail users’ fora in Thanjavur and Kumbakonam during his visit on Tuesday.
Arriving by an Inspection Special, he interacted briefly with the public, who had queued up before the reservation counters.
He inspected the junction and advised officials to deck up the station aesthetically. Station Manager B.John Theagarajan and Traffic Inspector C. Mohanraj promised to do the needful.
Accompanied by Additional DRM Raj Purohit, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager C.Padmadas, and Divisional Engineer Gowrishankar, Mr. Aggarwal left for Kumbakonam where he, besides inspecting the facilities at the junction, discussed the preparation works for the Mahamaham due next February.
In Thanjavur, the Divisional Rail Users Consultative Committee member T.K. Jayaraman submitted a memorandum demanding extension of Tiruchi-Tirunelveli Inter City Super Fast Express to Thanjavur, extension of Howrah-Tiruchi Express to Velankanni via Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam, and extending the Uzhavan Express, idling all through the day at Thanjavur Junction, to Salem via Tiruchi, Karur and Namakkal. At Kumbakonam, the Thanjavur District Rail Users’ Association president P.K.T.Shanmugham, vice-president A.Giri and secretary Dinesh Kumar met the DRM and submitted a wish list of facilities required.
The team sought operation of special trains during the festival period, extension of platforms to accommodate 24 coaches, extension of foot-overbridge to cover Platform 3, and a coach terminal facility at Kumbakonam.
