Visakhapatnam (VSKP): Waltair Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Chandralekha Mukherjee Friday complimented the officers and staff of the Visakhapatnam Diesel Loco Shed (DLS) for their commendable service to achieve exemplary results. She recalled the commitment and devotion of the DLS staff who overcame hurdles and worked hard in the aftermath of cyclone Hudhud that ravaged the DLS premises.
Inaugurating the two-day golden jubilee celebrations of the DLS here Friday, Chandralekha Mukherjee said that since its inception on May 2, 1965, with a mere fleet of 13 WDM1 type locos, the DLS had grown to become the largest in the Indian Railways with a fleet of 231 locos.
“The Diesel Loco Shed was ravaged during Hudhud. But the staff overcame all these hurdles and performed remarkably to help the East Coast Railway restore operations fast,” she said.
ECoR chief motive power engineer Arjun Mundia, the guest of honour, said that the Visakhapatnam DLS had great fortune with its technical workforce including dedicated women employees who were devoted to their duties.
M Srinivasa Rao, senior divisional mechanical engineer (diesel), gave an account of the journey of the loco shed from its nascent stage to the number one spot in the Indian Railways. Officers, staff and their family members gathered to participate in the celebrations.
Prizes were distributed among the winners of sports events conducted to mark the occasion and merit certificates were given to the staff who had shown devotion to duty in an innovative way.
A technical seminar on “Best maintenance practices on HHP Locomotives” by various sheds will be held at the DLS from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Member (Mechanical), Railway Board, Hemant Kumar will participate as chief guest and ECoR General Manager Rajiv Vishnoi will be the guest of honour at the golden celebrations to be held at the shed later in the evening.
