PATNA: Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) fined 323 passengers in two months for dirtying railway platforms and its premises. It realized a penalty of Rs 38,000 from these passengers by imposing a fine of Rs 500 on each of them. A few passengers were caught red-handed while throwing dirt and filth on platforms or tracks at different stations under Danapur division.
According to ECR CPRO Amitabh Prabhakar, 259 passengers were caught dirtying the Patna Junction premises. Twenty-three passengers were penalized at Danapur station, followed by Buxar (28), Ara (10) and Rajendra Nagar Terminal (3), he said, adding that Railway Board had recently issued a directive to all railway zones to maintain cleanliness on running trains as well as on platforms.
The CPRO said railways has launched a vigorous drive in all the five divisions of ECR to maintain cleanliness on train and railway premises. ECR GM Madhuresh Kumar has been personally watching the cleanliness drive. RPF personnel are on round-the-clock job to nab passengers found dirtying railway platforms, he said.
Artists are staging street plays at different stations, particularly at the crowded stations under the ECR, to create awareness among passengers about the need to keep railway premises and trains clean. Posters and banners have been put up at all major stations to ensure passengers reaching there strictly follow the instructions and help railways maintain cleanliness in and around station areas, the CPRO said.
According to Danapur senior divisional commercial manager (senior DCM) A K Rajak, railways has been making proper announcements on public address system at all major stations about the need to maintain cleanliness on running trains or station premises.
