ECOREA condemns attack on Railway Engineer

Bhubaneswar (BBS): The East Coast Railway Engineers Association (ECoREA) on Monday condemned the attack on the railway’s senior section engineer Sudarsan Chowdhury at Puri on Sunday night. ECoREA president Er Bobin Mohanty said Er Chowdhury engaged at Puri to complete second railway line ahead of Rath Yatra was attacked by three anti-socials at 10pm on Sunday near Puri station yard.

After attacking the engineer with bhujalis and lathis, Mohanty said, the criminals looted Sony X-peria mobile, ATM card, calculator and cash of Rs 3,500. Er Chowdhury was seriously injured and admitted in hospital. After getting information, PCR van reached immediately and caught one culprit, he added. The association strongly condemned the incident and demanded arrest of other two culprits immediately to discourage anti-social works in forthcoming Nabakalebar festival.

The association submitted letters to Chief Secretary of the State and the General Manager of the ECoR demanding adequate security to its members and staff at Puri. Notably, association member Er Sukant Panda was attacked by a mob of around 200 people on March 12, 2012 in connection with removal of encroachments near Puri station for beautification of the railway station prior to the Nabakalabera event.
