Sambalpur (SBP): In a bid to safeguard the rights of the children and keeping in view the condition of helpless and unattended children in stations, Sambalpur Railway Division has set up child assistance centres (CACs) at several stations.
“We lay stress on the project which seeks to protect the unattended children at the stations. While we have set up child assistance centres (CACs) at Sambalpur and Titlagarh stations, the division has formed children protection committees at Sambalpur, Bolangir and Titlagarh stations,” informed Mr Devraj Panda, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Sambalpur.
For monitoring children rights protection at the places; awareness programmes and sensitisation measures among stake holders have been initiated, he informed, adding that nodal officers have been identified at the divisional office and also at major stations.
“Emergency telephone numbers at the divisional office for child right protection activities are 0663-2521191 and 0663- 2521179. Similarly, the emergency number at Sambalpur station is 0663-2522122, Bolangir station is 06652-232620 and Titlagarh Station is 06655-220249,” Mr Panda said, claiming that the division will take prompt action after getting information over these phone numbers.
The DRM further stressed that the conscious and responsible citizens should immediately inform the officers in charge of the children protection committees when they find any unaccompanied children at stations or children being transported illegally in trains, lost children loitering at stations etc.
“It must be a joint effort for successful implementation of the project. We can take suitable steps only when citizens extend their support,” he said.
