GM/ECR highlights developments and passenger amenities on East Central Railway at ZRUCC Meet

Patna: Mr.Madhuresh Kumar, General Manager of East Central Railway (ECR) has said that the Railway has made spectacular achievements in freight loading and revenue earning during the 11 years of its existence and that the Passenger amenities have also been given top priority in all the five divisions of the ECR.

Speaking at the ECR’s Zonal Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) meeting here on Wednesday, Kumar said railways has so far attached 102 additional coaches to long-distance passenger trains, which benefited about 17,000 passengers. The number of coaches has been increased in a few mail and express trains from 18 to 24 coaches, he said.

According to the GM, cleanliness is being maintained at every major station in ECR. Laying of new lines, gauge conversion, providing platform sheds and widening foot over bridge (FOB) at major stations are being carried out under all the five divisions of ECR, he said adding work on mega bridges in Bihar was going on in full swing and they will be completed in time.

RJD MP Ram Kripal Yadav demanded early completion of all pending railway projects in Bihar. He urged the railways to improve sanitation at Patna Junction and demanded raising of height of platforms at Sadisopur station. Patna Junction should be developed as a world-class station as announced earlier, he said.

JD (U) MP Ram Sundar Das said railways must complete the Digha-Sonepur rail cum road bridge by March 2015. There must not be any further delay in its completion, he said. RJD MP Raghubansh Prasad Singh said the condition of the existing Gandhi Setu was deplorable. As such, Digha-Sonepur bridge must be completed soon to take off pressure from Gandhi Setu. He demanded jobs in railways for all the farmers whose land had been acquired by railways for development purposes.

Govind Prasad Mishra, an MP from Madhya Pradesh, said Singrauli station should be developed. He demanded extension of the Ranchi-Chopan passenger train up to Singrauli. Ravindra Kumar Pandey, an MP from Jharkhand, said more trains should be given stoppage at Chandrapura and Parasnath stations of the Dhanbad division.

The meeting discussed ongoing railway projects and running of trains under different divisions of ECR. Most of the members demanded additional platform ticket counters at Patna Junction during peak time and regular surprise check on meals being served to passengers. One of the members urged the ECR GM to make onboard house keeping (OBH) scheme more useful for passengers on running trains.

Earlier, ECR GM welcomed the guests and highlighted the achievements of ECR during the current fiscal year. Deputy general manager A K Jha conducted the meeting.
