ECR waltair division celebrates 58th Railway week in Port City

East Coast Railway (ECR), Waltair Division celebrated 58th Railway Week at its Major Division this Evening with great enthusiasm and gaiety. Railway Week is celebrated all over Indian Railways every year to commemorate the running of the first ever train on Indian soil on April 16, 1853. ECR Waltair Divisional Railway Manager Anil Kumar was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Additional Divisional Manager C Madhusudana Rao and all Principal Heads of the Departments, Divisional Railway Managers and representatives of different Unions and Associations attended the function. Other officers and staff with their family members were also present on the occasion. As many as 172 selected railway staff and officers including group awardees were felicitated with Merit Certificates and Efficiency Badges in recognition of their outstanding services and devotion to work during 2012-13. Mr Kumar said the division achieved an originating loading of 51.54 Mteric Tonnes and with this, it has become one of the few divisions on Indian Railways which has on originating loading in excess of 50 Meteric Tonnes.

On account of this loading the, corresponding freight revenue earning has also crossed Rs 5,000 crore and touched Rs 5,275.83 crore. The increase in loading in 2012-13 has been mainly due to increase in loading of iron ore, gypsum, alumina and Steel, he added.
