Ernakulam Town (ERN): The Ernakulam District Resident’s Association’s Apex Council (EDRAAC) has demanded the State Government to expedite the work of the Vaduthala rail overbridge (RoB). The demand was raised at the Council meeting held on Tuesday.
“The Vaduthala RoB has been in papers for the past several years just like the Pachalam RoB. While the RoB at Pachalam is the need of the hour, it is high time that the Vaduthala railway level cross is also closed down in lieu for an RoB. Traffic congestion during the peak hours is a major concern,” said P N Soman, Secretary of EDRAAC. He added that the Corporation has failed to take any action to solve traffic issues in the Vaduthala-Chittoor region. “We are frequently asking the Corporation to widen the road near the railway crossing to reduce the rush in the area.
However, there has been no response so far,” the members of EDRAAC said. They also stated that social institutions functioning in the area should be willing to give away their land for such developmental activities.
The Council stated that it was imperative for authorities to take up the work of Vaduthala RoB simultaneously with the Pachalam RoB.
