Efforts are on to find remaining funds for the Nettoor Railway Overbridge, said Union Minister K V Thomas. Of the total project cost of Rs.8.5 crore, an amount of Rs.3 crore has already been allotted from the MP fund and joint efforts are being made to raise the remaining amount, he said.
“We have been trying to find the remaining amount from Public Sector Units like Kochi Refinery. Talks are being held in this regard. Otherwise, it can be included under the JNNURM projects also. That possibility is also being worked out. If included in JNNURM, then it would be a 50-50 shared basis,” K V Thomas said.
Assuring that the project is still on track, the Minister said that construction of the ROB has been entrusted with the Roads and Bridges Corporation. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared and approvals have been obtained. “The Railways do not want to have a manned gate at this place. That’s why we decided to go for an over bridge. Now getting the remaining funds is the only bottleneck. Minister K Babu has also agreed to contribute from his MLA fund,” said K V Thomas adding that a meeting was held the other day in this regard with the Union Railway Minister.
