Electrification of Lucknow Metro Tracks & Stations begins ahead of schedule

Lucknow Metro ElectrificationLucknow: fter completing construction of cross-beams and placement of I-girders at the North-South priority section of 8.5km starting from Transport Nagar to Charbagh, the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC) on Wednesday started electrification process for running the train on tracks, almost a month ahead of schedule.

The trial of metro run on the said stretch will begin in October and will start operating from January 2017.

“We have started Over Head Electrification (OHE) work near Krishnanagar Metro station for providing 25 kv power to the Metro Trains on elevated 8.5km stretch,” said Kumar Keshav Managing Director, LMRC. “A power sub-station (RSS) is being constructed at Transport Nagar depot which will receive electricity from Sarojininagar sub-station of the UP Power Corporation Limited and supply it to the priority corridor,” he added.

“Apart from OHE, underground cables will also be laid in around 6 km of the stretch for the purpose. The process of getting approvals from different stakeholders like NHAI, PWD,GAIL, GGL etc is in progress and it is expected that cabling work would be completed before the onset of monsoon, he said.

The entire power supply arrangement will be remotely operated, controlled and monitored through SCADA system from the power supply control centre at the Transport Nagar Depot.

The same process will be followed in the entire metro route in remaining part of the city. At every RSS, there will be two stations namely the Traction Sub Station (TSS) and the Auxiliary Main Substation (AMS). The output of TSS is 25 kV single phase AC, which is used for running of Metro train, the output of AMS is 33 kV three phase AC which is further stepped down to 415 V three phase for providing auxiliary supply to the stations and train maintenance depots.
