Erode Jn (ED): Railway employees are busy giving a makeover to the Erode Railway Junction ahead of the visit of General Manager of Southern Railway Rakesh Misra.
The platforms are being cleaned up and re-laid at some spots. A fresh coat of paint on the walls has given the station a more presentable look. Sources said the GM would be spending at least a few hours at the junction to take stock of the activities in progress and review steps taken for new works for which funds have already been sanctioned. Accompanied by the heads of all departments and the Divisional Railway Manager of Salem Division, Mr. Misra would lay foundation stone for the Divisional Railway Hospital in the Railway Colony, a much-anticipated project for which the Railways Ministry has already sanctioned funds.
The Rs. 5.1 crore project envisages transforming the existing sub-divisional hospital into a multi-speciality facility to address the healthcare needs of hundreds of employees working in the administrative office and the loco sheds.
Mr. Misra is also likely to launch a medical booth and an ambulance service at the station akin to the one in Salem. A private hospital has been identified to run the booth, sources said. The inspection would be comprehensive since the heads of departments would simultaneously review the works in their respective areas.
