First Integrated Mega Block for Track Maintenance works implemented on Indian Railways

BHOPAL: Indian Railways is on the path of progressive transformation duly according top priority to the Safety and Punctuality in train operations.

Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of Railways conducted several meetings on the innovative strategies to implement the objectives of Safety and Punctuality.

As part of the innovative strategies to improve Safety standards and enhance Punctuality performance of Indian Railways led by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, a  “First Integrated Mega block of 5 hours was organized  on down line of Bina –  Katni busy section under West Central Railway. The maintenance section falls between two railway divisions of WCR viz. Bhopal and Jabalpur

The Engineering department has simultaneously conducted work at four different places by taking a mega block for duration of 5 hrs on 24th June on one of the important busiest section on Indian Railways i.e.,  down line of Bina – Katni section on West Central Railway.

This mega block resulted in completion of Deep screening of ballast for a length of 2200 mtrs by deploying two Ballast Cleaning Machines. During the block period a length of 10 kms of Track tamping was completed. Sleepers of track were renewed for a length of 410 mtrs, simultaneously 2.8 km length of rail was also replaced with new rails. In addition 1250 nos of wider sleepers were unloaded along the track for the purpose of intermittent safety works.

The work has been taken up on four different sections viz., Nariaoli-Saugor; Lidhorakhurd-Girwer; Ganeshganj-Phatharia & Salaiya yard on important and busiest route of Bina – Katni stations on West Central Railway. This has helped in strengthening the track and safety in the section without much disturbance to the running of train services.

Since the Mega block has been planned in a strategic manner with minimum regulation of train services, the experiment yielded very good results with negligible loss of Punctuality in train operations.
