Visakhapatnam (VSKP): During the first month of the present fiscal, the Waltair railway division registered 16.27 million passengers recording a rise of 6.68 percent over last year for the same period. The earnings too were recorded at Rs 150.92 crore at a rise of 10.67 percent in comparison to last year for the same period.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Waltair Division, M Yelvender Yadav said that the Waltair Division achieved the highest loading and passenger carrying during the financial year 2014-15. The division has earned an all time high of Rs 6,653.31 crore showing an overall increase of 6.17 percentage. It is also significant to note that the freight earnings of the Division for 2014-15 was at Rs 6,159.73 crore, explained Yadav.
In spite of hardships like cyclonic storm Hudhud, Maoist activity, suspension of train movements during night in the KK line, the traffic carried was increased due to implementation of several traffic facility works and innovative measures like running long-hauled empty goods trains up to the hill to save sectional capacity.
The ticket checking activity was remarkable during this financial year. As many as 3.96 lakh cases were registered against the 3.72 lakh cases during 2013-14.
