Akkannapet (AKE): Foundation stone was laid for the construction of a new Railway line between Medak and Akkannapet by Sunita Laxma Reddy, Minister, Govt.of AP and Vijaya Shanthi, Member of Parliament, Medak , at a function held at Medak today ie on 19th January, 2014
Mallikarjun Kharge, Minister for Railways, could not participate in the function to lay the foundation stone as planned earlier as the helicopter arranged to ferry the Minister from Gulbarga to Medak could not take off due to a technical snag in the last minute. However, Kharge conveyed his greetings and wishes to the people of Medak area on the occasion of the commencement of works on this New Rail Line Project, which fulfils a long pending demand of the local people. Also, he later inquired about the program conducted from the General Manager/South Central Railway.
While welcoming the participants, P.K.Srivastava, General Manager, South Central Railway, said that though Medak is an important town situated near to the Capital City, it has so far not been connected by rail. Commencement of works on Medak-Akkannapet railway line would realize the long cherished dream of the people of Medak area. The 17.2 Km long line, sanctioned in 2012 Railway Budget, is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 129.3 Cr. It is targeted to complete this work within a period of two years. It is heartening to note that Government of Andhra Pradesh has agreed to share 50% of the cost of this project and also to provide land free of cost, he added.
Sunita Laxma Reddy, Minister, Govt.of AP and Vijaya Shanthi, Hon’ble MP/Medak also spoke on the occasion. M.Hanmantha Rao, Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly, Medak, Maheshwari, Sarpanch/Akkannapet , senior officials from Railways and the District administration also participated in this function.
