Tragedy was averted following timely detection of removal of four “rail pieces” in the Jagadalpur-Kirandul section of Kottavalasa-Kirandul rail line in Chhattisgarh under the East Coast Railway jurisdiction.
In fact, the East Coast Railway had controlled the movement of 1VK/2VK Visakhapatnam-Kirandul-Visakhapatnam passenger train on getting intelligence inputs that the Left Wing extremists could resort to sabotage in the wake of observance of ‘martyrs week’.
ECoR spokesperson said here on Sunday that “four pieces of rails were found removed from the rail line between Dantewada and Kamlur stations in Chhattisgarh early in the morning. The Over Head Electricity had also been removed from midnight.”
As a result, train services were disrupted up to noon in the section, he said. Freight trains were detained en route at different stations in the KK line.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, ECoR officials immediately put their men and machinery into service from early in the morning for early restoration of track.
According to ECoR, the railway track had been repaired on Sunday morning and the OHE restored.
In the wake of the deadly attack on the Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh, railway officials had been asked to stay alert in all naxal affected districts of Odisha, especially in the areas bordering Chhattisgarh.
