लखनऊ Lucknow (LKO): The work of designing and giving consultation on the metro-project has been given to a French company -‘Systra France International’ which excels in engineering the public transport infrastructure across the globe. The company carries around 50 years of experience and is already assisting the Faridabad metro line. While Systra is the design consultant, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) has emerged as the lowest bidder after the evaluation of financial bids for constructing about 8 km stretch of metro’s priority section.
The work orders are being prepared at Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) headquarters for both the companies. “Both companies should hopefully be appointed as our design and civil construction consultant in a week and the work on priority section would begin in the last week of September”, said an LMRC official. He said that Systra is offering more economical designs of structures like escalators, platforms, staircase etc which will save a lot on project’s cost.
An official said, “The structures will be pre-fixed at the metro yard and placed on the site after carrying them on huge trucks and cranes. This will save a lot on energy, time and money. Systra is offering us more contemporary designs which occupied lesser space at an economical price.” The tenders for design consultant of priority section were floated by DMRC some time back, which is also the interim consultant of the project. The priority section has been chosen on the stretch from Transport Nagar to Charbagh railway station.
Presently, Systra is designing the metro-line of Faridabad which is being constructed by (L&T). The same team will now work on priority section of Lucknow Metro. LMRC has checked the construction standards in Faridabad and was satisfied with their work. The value of civil construction tender is around Rs 543 crore. L&T will make 8 km metro-track along with elevated metro stations, namely–Transport Nagar, Krishnanagar, Singarnagar, Alambagh Chauraha, Alambagh bus station, Mavaiyya, Durgapuri and Charbagh on the designs made by Systra. The companies will also construct the mother depot of metro in PAC 32nd Battalion campus on Kanpur Road.
The tender for civil construction work of priority section was floated in July end in which 24 companies had shown interest. After the pre-bid conference, 8 companies participated in the tender. The technical bids were opened on August 14 and after shortlisting the qualifying companies, their financial bids were recently evaluated. Since L&T proposed lowest cost, metro officials have decided to award the work to the company. The company’s name has to be approved by the LMRC board and the cabinet too.
L&T has good experience in building metro projects and is already working in Hyderabad and Faridabad metro projects. The work of priority section has to begin by September 2014 and also finish by December 2016 as per the goal fixed by the chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. The section does not include a special span of about 200 metre above Mavaiyya railway crossing for which another expert company will be selected through a separate tender process.
