Gadag-Wadi railway line project awaiting CCEA nod: Kharge

Yadgir (YG):  Railway Minister Mr.Mallikarjun Kharge said that the proposed Gadag-Wadi rail line, which would provide rail connectivity between Hyderabad Karnataka and Mumbai Karnataka, was now before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) for final approval.

Two other important projects, in Rajasthan and Punjab, are also before the committee, he told at Gurmitkal in Yadgir district on Sunday.

The CCEA, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is likely to give approval to the three mega railway projects in its next sitting, which would be held any time now. “CCEA usually meets once a week. In their next meeting, all three proposals will be discussed.”

Foundation Stone for Rail Coach Factory building at Kadechur:

Mr. Kharge said that February 15 had been fixed as a tentative date for the laying of the foundation stone for the proposed Rail Coach Building Factory at Kadechur in Yadgir. Everything depends on All-India Congress Committee vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Karnataka on February 15. “If the party wanted my presence in the functions attended by Mr. Gandhi, the event would have to be postponed,” he said. The foundation stone for the administrative office of the Solapur division of the Central Railways in Gulbarga would be laid after February 21.

He was, however, tight-lipped on whether new projects or schemes would be announced in the vote-on-account in Parliament on February 12. Mr. Kharge did not want to comment on the vote-on-account either, since it was underway. He added that he would meet the Prime Minister in New Delhi on Monday.

‘A media creation’

To a question, Mr. Kharge said that the so-called pro-Modi wave in the country was “the media’s creation,” and the Congress had devised a multi-pronged strategy to counter any such efforts. “Mr. Gandhi’s current whirlwind tour of the country, his meetings with youths and the common man and group meetings, public meetings and interaction with different groups was designed to counter the propaganda of the RSS and BJP.”

Mr. Kharge said that the merger of the KJP with the BJP would not have any impact on the Congress.
